I have two amazing grandmothers, but the one in the spotlight this week is my grandmother Hendrickson. Born in Cleveland, OH, Doris Jeanne Hendrickson has kicked some serious butt over the years. She’s raised 10 children, has 39 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren - and that number is growing every day.

Our Matriarch is sassy and loves to talk about my grandfather, her childhood, and how she managed to get 10 kids out the door and on to their own lives. She and my grandfather owned a bar, and loves to tell the story about how they used to change diapers on the counter, and laughs about how my grandfather could roll across the floor like a circus performer.

For her birthday this year, my mother (#9 out of 10) suggested that we all bake her a cake and decorate them together. It was hysterical the number of cakes we had, and the joy on my grandmother’s face may be the best thing I will ever capture in a photo.
