Battle Brynn Foundation
The Battle Brynn Foundation funds research and creates special experiences for families battling childhood cancer.
About Brynn:
Courageous. Faithful. Confident. Sassy. Loyal. Big Hearted. Beautiful. Creative. Zealous. Protective. Bright. Heroic. Irreplaceable.
Brynn was a bright light to everyone who was lucky enough to meet her during her time here on earth. She is now our Chief Operating Angel guiding us in all that we do to help other children during the same fight that she fought for over a third of her lifetime.
Brynn was sweet and sass all wrapped up into one while being a fierce competitor on the soccer field and volleyball court. She brought a drive that was innate and unmatched to the field. We hope to bring that same drive to ensure families are able to live as Brynn did during her fight against cancer.
Brynn chose to live during this diagnosis. She chose to have nerf fights with nurses and make the most of her time here. Now, we are charged to do the same.
Brynn is our why.
Book Drive For Kids
Book Drive for Kids helps create a culture of literacy by providing books for disadvantaged children for independent reading.
Independent reading is reading that is not tested, is content chosen by the reader, and is done for pleasure or personal fulfillment. Studies suggest that independent readers become better readers, score higher on achievement tests in all subject areas, and have greater content knowledge than those who do not. Independent reading may be conducted at school during a silent sustained reading (SSR) period or at home, in the car or between classes. Independent reading, even as little as ten minutes a day, has a significant effect on reading test scores.
CASA of Denton County
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Denton County, Inc. is a volunteer-based non-profit organization serving the Denton County area. CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to serve as advocates for children removed from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) due to abuse or neglect allegations. These volunteers investigate and monitor a child’s situation while in alternative or foster care. Within a twelve to eighteen month time period, they make a recommendation to the presiding judge as to what permanent placement would be in the best interest of the child.
Although professionals in the child welfare system are often overworked and frequently change positions, the CASA volunteer is intended to be a constant presence in the lives of abused and neglected children. By advocating for the best interests of the child above all else, CASA hopes to ensure that each and every child is given the opportunity to grow and thrive in a safe, loving, and permanent home.

The LISD INCubatoredu Program
The INCubatoredu program offers students an authentic entrepreneurship experience. In this program, students have the opportunity to create and fully develop their own product or service with the help of real entrepreneurs and business experts.
Students are Taught by a Team
The "team" is comprised of volunteer coaches, mentors, and the classroom teacher. Coaches provide authentic business expertise in a specific area. They come into the classroom for a short period of time to provide all students with a real-world context for a specific curricular area. Mentors are assigned to one team and follow them through the entire process providing students with feedback and encouragement.
Authentic, Real-World Learning and Hands-On Problem Solving
Over the course of the two semesters, students work in teams and learn by doing. They develop a business model canvas, gain market input on a minimum viable product, and iterate all elements to improve their business plan. The program culminates with a pitch to "investors".
Blend of Lean Startup Process with Foundational Business Topics
Required reading for the course is The Lean Startup by Eric Ries, which teaches entrepreneurship through innovation and trains students to learn what is working and what is not working in their businesses. Other suggested readings on the Lean Startup process include Running Lean by Ash Maurya, Business Model Generation by Alexander Osterwalder, and Why the Lean Startup Changes Everything by Steve Blank - Harvard Business Review.
Journey to Dream
Journey to Dream is a nonprofit in Denton County, Texas that offers comprehensive services for youth navigating the challenging teen years, from the every day to the extraordinary. Our mission is to embrace, equip, and empower homeless, victimized, and at-risk teens to achieve recovery, overcome adversity, and live purposeful lives.
Today’s teens face extraordinary challenges with lifelong consequences before they’ve fully developed the skills to cope with them. These can include everything from traumatic experiences like homelessness, trafficking and abuse to the everyday challenges of being a teen, like peer pressure, family conflict and stress. Since 2004, Journey to Dream has provided youth safe spaces to work through these issues by developing their identities and healthy coping skills.
Founded by two passionate women who saw a gap in services for homeless teens in Denton County, the organization has grown to reach 15,000 young people annually. We are a faith-driven and inclusive organization that is committed to empowering teens while also providing them the guidance and accountability needed during these formative years.
Our continuum of programs include shelter for teens experiencing homelessness, ongoing support services and in-school prevention programs to help middle and high school students manage the stresses of growing up in today’s complex world.
Human Rights Campaign
Leading the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
The Human Rights Campaign has spent more than 40 years creating the most powerful movement for equality our country has ever seen. But despite this progress, our most marginalized are still suffering from violence, discrimination and fear. Our goal is to ensure that all LGBTQ+ people, and particularly those of us who are trans, people of color and HIV+, are treated as full and equal citizens within our movement, across our country and around the world.
The Human Rights Campaign and Human Rights Campaign Foundation fight to make equality, equity and liberation a reality for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. As the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, we drive impact by inspiring, engaging and mobilizing millions of pro-equality voters and supporters to elect pro-equality leaders and to demand equity-based policies and legislation; changing hearts and minds through programming that increases understanding, visibility and support for the diverse LGBTQ+ community in all aspects of our identities; and transforming the institutions and systems that shape our everyday lives by advancing LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and practices in schools, workplaces, hospitals, communities and beyond.
Lewisville Education Foundation
The Lewisville ISD Education Foundation exists to enrich the quality of public education in the thirteen communities served by the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) and serves as a vehicle for securing private funding benefiting LISD teachers and students.
Circa 1990 (and not unlike today), LISD Administrators were facing the challenge of financing quality, public education. So with the efforts of a core group of concerned citizens and key district personnel, the idea for an education foundation to support LISD was born.
After extensive research by Dr. Janet Luttrell, who would become LEF’s first Executive Director, the education foundation concept was presented to LISD’s Board of Trustees where it received unanimous support. In 1990, the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation was established as a public, non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) tax status and kicked off its Founding Donor Campaign raising 50% of its goal in just two months.
The North Texas Food Bank
In 1982, four Dallas women pledged to fight hunger in North Texas. These visionary leaders – Jo Curtis, Kathryn Hall, Lorraine Griffin Kircher, and Liz Minyard – began collecting and distributing donations of surplus food and grocery products through a network of charitable organizations across North Texas, establishing the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB).
This network covered 13 counties that comprise the current NTFB service area: Dallas, Denton, Collin, Fannin, Rockwall, Hunt, Grayson, Kaufman, Ellis, Navarro, Lamar, Delta, and Hopkins
Through persistence and generous community support, in its first year, the NTFB distributed more than 400,000 pounds of food to our neighbors experiencing hunger. In 1983, members of NTFB’s organizing committee joined members of the Texas Legislature to help pass the Good Faith Donor Act, which protected donors from liability of donations or donated product. After this, many more North Texans were inspired to donate.
Today, nearly 40 years later, the NTFB is still supported by a generous and compassionate community that cares deeply about helping North Texans achieve food security. As the hunger crisis has grown over the years, NTFB has expanded from distributing 400,000 pounds of food a year to distributing 144 million meals in its last fiscal year – more annual meals than ever in our history – through its Feeding Network of nearly 500 Partner Agencies.
As we commemorate our 40th anniversary of serving our neighbors facing hunger, we know the need is greater than it has ever been. The COVID-19 pandemic has both caused and exposed an unprecedented level of food insecurity in our community. According to Feeding America, approximately 640,000 North Texans do not know where their next healthy meal will come from – including 1 in 6 children. North Texas the 4th most food insecure region in the nation.
The NTFB is committed to providing Food for Today and Hope for Tomorrow as we continue to work toward our vision of creating a hunger-free and healthy North Texas.
